ShelterCare had the pleasure of welcoming the Highmark 20, a group of shop owners affiliated with the Automotive Training Institute, to Supported Housing’s Shankle Residence on September 14. The group spent a beautiful, sunny afternoon giving Shankle’s exterior a much-needed fresh coat of paint.
The Highmark 20 members, who converged on Eugene from a variety of states, including Nebraska, Colorado, Utah and Idaho, gather periodically in different locations for continuing education. It’s a tradition for these hardworking businesspeople to start their meetings with a volunteer community service project.
The September 2016 meeting was organized by Eugene’s own Joe's Garage, a third-generation family-owned shop now run by Darin and Lori David. The automotive shop has been a fixture on 1st Avenue in Eugene since 1952, when it was founded by Joe James. Many thanks to Darin, Lori and all of the Highmark 20 volunteers for their generosity and hard work!
