Did you know that ShelterCare has a free store for our participants who are in need of household items? Our most in-demand item is always toilet paper! We put together a "Spare A Square" Amazon wish list with a few different price point options, and it would mean so much to our participants and us if you sent us a package! Here's the link: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/20U576L8GQSUO/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_3

Get to know Herb Merker, a ShelterCare donor!![]()
What inspired you to start supporting ShelterCare?![]()
Twenty-Five years ago, I toured ShelterCare facilities with Executive Director, Susan Ban. I was impressed with the scope and performance of the organization, so I decided to become a financial supporter. ![]()
Why is giving back to this cause important to you personally?![]()
Though I have never needed the support that ShelterCare provides, I know that there is good reason to care for those who find themselves needing help. It is a social responsibility to sustain organizations like ShelterCare, whether politically, financially, or by volunteering your time.![]()
What impact do you hope your support has on the people or community we serve?![]()
I think my support is a small part of the total financial need, but I hope it encourages those working within the organization and sets an example for other contributors to follow.![]()
What would you say to someone who is considering getting involved or making their first gift?![]()
Any gift to a charitable organization, large or small, shows that the giver recognizes their commitment to share the burden of helping those less fortunate. An individual who contributes gains a feeling of being responsible as a caring citizen. For many, this is enough, but the recipient organization's thanks is always an added positive.![]()
What other local or broader causes do you support in our community?![]()
I support locally and include both cultural and social organizations.

We had such a fun and festive Easter at ShelterCare! Our Birch program did some cooking groups and made lots of goodies. Nick was a good sport as this year's Easter bunny🐰 The staff also filled plastic eggs with goodies and hid them around the houses for our participants to find!
