Consumer Council has started this new fiscal year with a bang. We have a new officer, Tammy H., who was elected as our new treasurer.
Last year Marilyn D., a consumer council member brought to the council’s attention that the Hawthorn program would really benefit from having some raised garden beds. We are happy to announce that several individuals and agencies, including Moss Adams, came together to make it happen!
Most recently, the Consumer Council has decided to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We will be showing our support by making a donation and walking the Out of Darkness Walk at Alton Baker Park on September 30th. Anyone interested in helping us reach our goal can donate on our American Foundation for Suicide Prevention fundraiser page.
Last month we showed our support by donating 10 yoga mats to ShelterCare’s new yoga group. This class encourages health through yoga and meditation to strengthen our minds and bodies.
I am really excited about our newest project. We, as a Consumer Council body, separate from ShelterCare, have decided to give back to the community by putting on a shoe drive for unhoused individuals. We are gathering new or gently used shoes to pass out to unhoused individuals sometime in November. Many unhoused individuals get their shoes stolen or just don’t have adequate footwear. We are gathering shoes and boots in a range adult sizes–focusing on footwear suitable for fall and winter months. If anyone is interested in donating, please feel free to email me at cwilliams1544@gmail.com.
Thank you for all your support.
Cindy W., President
